Hyakkimaru has been working as a professional paper cutting artist since 1978. In 1982, he took on the design of the cover illustrations for the serialized editions of Sunday Mainichi (published by Mainichi Shimbun).
He has illustrated over 800 book covers and novels for monthly magazines, weekly publications, and newspapers. In total, Hyakkimaru has created more than 10,000 works.
After turning 70, he also began producing kamishibai (paper theater performances) using hand-drawn illustrations and expanded his artistic activities abroad by combining paper cutting with kamishibai.
