Kitamura Sisters

The Kitamura Sisters are an exceptional female tsugaru shamisen duo consisting of the talented Mao (elder sister) and Miri (younger sister). They have received rigorous training in the art of tsugaru shamisen from their father, the renowned musician Masataka Kitamura. Their dedication and skill have earned them top honours in both the group and individual categories at the National Tsugaru Shamisen Competition. 

While diligently refining their mastery of the traditional tsugaru shamisen, the Kitamura sisters have also breathed new life into age-old folk melodies through their unique arrangements, resulting in a mesmerising and unparalleled musical experience. 

Their artistic endeavours have expanded to encompass a wide range of activities, including collaborating with bands that seamlessly blend Japanese and Western musical instruments, receiving coveted invitations to perform internationally, and starring in commercials for Nintendo and prominent Japanese companies.
