Bérma was born in Hanover, Germany. Visiting the World Expo 2000 in his hometown, he developed an interest in Japan. He started learning Japanese at the age of 13 and got involved in German-Japanese cultural exchange activities. After graduating from high school, he did his community service in Japan. After returning to Germany, Bérma completed his bachelor's and master's degrees in Japanese Studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. In 2011, he was awarded the German-Japanese Friendship Award, related to the 150th anniversary of German-Japanese friendship. In Frankfurt he co-founded the “Japanese-German Bon-Odori dance group” and continues to contribute to the German-Japanese friendship. Bérma first came into contact with Enka music as a teenager and has been a great Enka enthusiast ever since.
