Syuji Kobayashi (小林秀吏) is a Japanese harpist and composer performing under the stage name “Harp Prince / ハープ王子.” Known for his signature rococo-inspired stage costume and highly conceptual presentation, he creates an immersive “out-of-the-ordinary” concert atmosphere.
He discovered the harp at age 16 in his high school music room, which set him on a professional path. He later graduated from Shobi Music College (尚美ミュージックカレッジ専門学校) and built a versatile profile across genres.
Kobayashi co-founded the harp & flute duo “StressFree,” active for roughly a decade until 2021. Beyond classical repertoire, he performs pop, jazz, chanson, and Celtic music, and regularly expands his work through cross-disciplinary projects such as dance collaborations and stage productions (including roles as performer and music director).
In recent years he has focused strongly on the Irish/Celtic harp, including technique and historical research, with multiple study trips to Ireland (2019–2024).
He also teaches (Tokyo/Kanagawa and online), covering multiple harp types from grand harp to metal-string harp.
