Todoroki Yosakoi

Todoroki Yosakoi is a passionate dance group that was founded in Stuttgart in 2013 and was officially designated as a Yosakoi ambassador team by Kōchi Prefecture in 2016. This special honor underscores their close connection to the birthplace of Yosakoi and their authentic, powerful style.

With a total of about 40 members from Stuttgart, Aachen, Düsseldorf, and Maastricht, Todoroki Yosakoi brings together dance enthusiasts who share a passion for Yosakoi—and it is precisely this shared enthusiasm that is palpable at every performance. As soon as they take the stage, the atmosphere becomes loud, dynamic, and electrifying: powerful movements, vibrant costumes, and the rhythmic clacking of the naruko instantly ignite the audience’s enthusiasm.

The Yosakoi dance itself originated in Kōchi Prefecture in 1954 and has always symbolized energy, creativity, and community. The dance is typically performed with naruko—traditional Japanese clappers—which not only set the beat but also turn the dance into a thrilling experience for both the eyes and ears. Today, the Yosakoi Festival captivates audiences at over 250 locations across Japan—with major events featuring up to 20,000 dancers and attracting over two million visitors.

Todoroki Yosakoi has made it its mission to bring together people of all ages and nationalities. With every choreography, they build a bridge between cultures and demonstrate how dance can foster joy, peace, and unity.
