Yemon Miyabiya delivers traditional and legendary Japanese Kabuki theatre, taking you on a journey as far back as to the 17th-century Japan.
At the Main Matsuri, he will perform Kagami Shishi, the Lion Dance. The piece tells the story of a New Year’s celebration at the Shogun’s palace during the Edo period and premiered in March 1893 at the Kabuki theatre in Tokyo, which had been built just a few years earlier.
Together with Riku Noma, Miyabiya will reenact the duel between Miyamoto Musashi (Miyabiya) and Sasaki Kojiro (Noma) on the small island of Ganryu-jima on Sunday. The duel took place on the morning of April 13th in the year 1612.
