Yurie Nishi is a dancer originally from Hyogo, Japan. She began her training in classical ballet at the age of 5 and continued her training in jazz and hip hop. She graduated from Mukogawa Women's University with a major in Health and Exercise Science in 2015 and subsequently moved to the United States. She completed the International Student Program at the Peridance Capezio Center (NYC) in 2017. She has taken several professional intensive courses, including Conteur in Toronto (2016) and METdance in Houston (2017), where she received a full scholarship. As a choreographer, Yurie has presented original work in the Amalgamate Artist Series at the New York City Center, the KoDaFe International Dance Festival at the Ailey Citigroup Theater and APEX at The Salvatore Capezio Theater. She was also given the opportunity to choreograph TriskelionArts for “Let's Talk about Love,” a benefit show in support of MSF's medical humanitarian work in Syria. As a performer, Yurie has worked with choreographers such as Julia Ehrstrand, Joe Celej, Kiki Lucas, Bonnie O’Rourke. Yurie's credits also include company work with the Bryce Dance Company in 2016-2018, the Mollét Contemporary Ballet in 2016-2018, the JKing Dance Company in the 2017/2018 season and the Spectrum Dance Theater under the direction of Donald Byrd in the 2018/2019 season. She currently lives in Berlin and dances with Chaim Gebber-Open Scene.
